Everyday Simple Sandwich Bread
Ingredients
• Active Dry Yeast: 1 packet (or 2 1/4 teaspoons)
• Warm Water: 1 1/4 cups (about 110°F/43°C)
• Sugar or Honey: 2 tablespoons
• All-Purpose or Bread Flour: 3 cups (plus a little extra for kneading)
• Salt: 1 1/2 teaspoons
• Unsalted Butter: 3 tablespoons, melted and cooled slightly
Instructions
1. Activate the Yeast: In a large bowl, dissolve the sugar and yeast in the warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
2. Mix the Dough: Stir in the melted butter and salt. Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
5. Shape and Second Rise: Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it into a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise again for about 45 minutes.
6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
7. Cool: Remove from the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
