Vegetable Steam Momos


  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped carrots
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons minced ginger
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt to taste


  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Add water, a little at a time, and knead until you have a smooth and pliable dough. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 20 minutes.
  2. While the dough is resting, make the filling. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the cabbage, carrots, onions, bell peppers, cilantro, garlic, and ginger. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are soft and tender, about 10-15 minutes.
  3. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, and salt to the vegetables, and stir to combine. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.
  4. After the dough has rested, divide it into small portions and roll each portion into a thin circle. Cut the circle into two halves.
  5. Take one half of the circle, and wet the edges with water. Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of the circle. Fold the circle in half, pressing the edges together to seal the momo. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
  6. Place the momos in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper. Steam the momos for about 10-12 minutes or until the dough is cooked and the filling is hot.
  7. Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice.
